Peaceful Practices Workshop Series

  • Lakeview Yoga 501 Valleybrook Rd. SUite 101 McMurray, PA 15317 USA (map)

In this Six Week ‘Peaceful Practice Workshop Series’ you will explore these vastly different practices that all share qualities of deep relaxation and self awareness. Each week Sarah and Kate will explore one specific practice including Yin, Restorative, Yoga Nidra, and Mindfulness with discussion and practice. Each workshop will address their specific intentions and benefits so you can learn to incorporate these peaceful practices into your life both on and off the mat.

September 9th - YIN YOGA
In this workshop Sarah will discuss how Yin Yoga can affect your physical, energetic, and emotional bodies. You will learn about Taoist philosophy as it applies to Yin Yoga along with the main principles of practice. Sarah will explain the connective tissues (ligaments, tendons, fascia) as well as the meridian system to help improve your understanding of anatomical and energetic pathways. Sarah will open up the discussion as you learn to sequence yin poses to feel a deep sense of peace in your body, mind and spirit.

September 16th - RESTORATIVE
Restorative Yoga uses props like bolsters, blankets, blocks and chairs to place the body in positions that allow the body's nervous system to move from the sympathetic to parasympathetic nervous system. This deeply relaxing practice lowers stress and anxiety, helps to facilitate healing and more restful sleep. Kate will demonstrate specific restorative poses including modifications and variations and discuss when and why to practice certain poses.

September 23rd - YOGA NIDRA
In this workshop Sarah will explore Yoga Nidra as a form of meditation that focuses on breath awareness, intention setting, visualization, and deep relaxation. Sarah will break down how Yoga Nidra is a unique form of meditation, exploring the 5 Koshas (layers of the body), and new research on how it benefits our mind and body. Sarah will lead a short Yoga Nidra meditation allowing for journaling afterwards and discussion how you can return to this practice again and again, each time rejuvenating the body, releasing negative patterns, and anchoring yourself in peace.

September 30th - MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness is paying attention to what is happening at the present moment, on purpose, without judgement. Sounds simple, but mindfulness can be an elusive practice to many. Kate will guide students through a few basic mindfulness practices and discuss how to cultivate a daily mindfulness practice. She will address questions and discuss benefits and challenges of mindfulness practice.
